Customer Reviews of This Album/CD

Amazing!

Well this is nothing like the first ACamp album which I purchased years ago after becomming a Cardigans fan especially after the masterpiece Long Gone Before Daylight. I mean this is a great album, beautifully written songs, tremendous production, great musicians, unique instrumentation, very lush and moody! I could almost say it would have been the perfect followup to Long Gone Before Daylight but it is quite different! It is more diverse overall than what that CD was, although Long Gone was very good, it was pretty much the same style and sound throughout! With Colonia, they are throwing all kinds of song styles at you. Now I have to be honest Nina may not be my favorite singer in the world, but she couldn't do any better than with material or songs like these. This is first rate all the way!
it gets better

Different from their first album but equally as good. Nina Persson's voice has really matured. Not only are the melodies great, the lyrics are meaningful. I got a chance to see them live at the Crocodile in Seattle, a small intimate venue. They are so good live - even my husband, whom I dragged there, was impressed.
Second album from Nina Persson's A Camp

A Camp are allegedly inspired by girl-pop of the 60s and 80's punk, as well as David Bowie. A Phil Spector influence is quite apparent on the single "Love Has the Left the Room", which is one of the strongest and catchiest songs on the album. The first single "Stronger Than Jesus", a song where Persson sounds a lot like another great female vocalist, Sheryl Crow, is another highlight on the album.

Though several songs are really quite catchy, don't expect an easy-listening album. Musically there is a great variety, ranging from pop, through country and rock till avant garde. Though different there is a distinct melodic approach to all songs.

The lyrics could also give rise to thought. Several songs are not easily interpreted. Not least the allegorical opening song "The Crowning" - An exciting waltzy track, which is also one of the album's strongest tracks.

Compared to the first Camp album, I find this new album slightly stronger, though I really liked the first a lot. Compared to the Cardigans albums "Long Gone Before Daylight" is still my favourite.
One Of the Best Albums of the Year.

For those that don't know, A Camp is the side project of Nina Persson, the lead singer from The Cardigans. A Camp also includes Niclas Frisk and Nathan Larson (Member of Shudder to Think & Nina's husband). This is a collection of twelve gorgeous pop songs with an alt country twinge. Fans of the last few Cardigans records should find much to like here, though I would compare this record most to the style found on the Cardigans masterpiece Long Gone Before Daylight. With expert songwriting and some truly wonderful lyrical twists from Nina, this album is pure bliss from beginning to end. What on the surface seems like a sugary sweet pop song, "Stronger than Jesus" becomes a commentary about the pitfalls of both love and religion if one pays attention. "The Crowning" is a glorious ode to the departure of a ruthless leader, whether you see it as the beheading of King Charles back in the 1600's or the departure of George W. Bush is up to you. A superb collection of songs that makes my best of the year list. Be sure to check out "Love Has Left The Room", "I Signed the Line", and "Bear on the Beach". Every song on here is a gem. Well worth a listen. Highly recommended.
Insipid Headache Music

Vacuous lyrics and philharmonic over-flourishes sabotage Nina Persson's vocals. Every time I try to listen to Colonia by A Camp the album gives me a headache!
